Balwin Villa has been placed on outbreak status today with three clients and two team members testing positive for COVID-19.

 

May 31st, 2022

We are pleased to report that Balwin Villa’s outbreak status has been lifted on May 23rd with all clients and team members making a full recovery!

In addition to this, the affected clients and team members at Grand Manor have fully recovered. The site currently has no active cases and has a tentative outbreak lift date on June 8th.

 

May 3rd, 2022

In addition to Grand Manor, Balwin Villa has been placed on Outbreak status with four clients and five team members testing positive for COVID-19. These members are currently recovering in isolation. 

At this time we believe that the outbreak has been contained to one unit.

We are pleased to announce that Balwin Villa’s outbreak status has been lifted as of February 22nd. In addition to this, all clients and team members at Grand Manor have also recovered and are off isolation. If there are no new cases introduced within Grand Manor, their tentative lift date is February 28th.

We are incredibly thankful to have such a dedicated team that has kept everyone safe and healthy during these last few months. 

 

February 7th, 2022

We would like to provide an update as several team members and clients have recovered since the previous update.

Balwin Villa

  • One resident and three team members currently have COVID-19.
  • eight-teen residents and twenty-two team members have recovered, are off isolation and are back at Balwin Villa. 

Grand Manor

  • nine-teen residents and four team members currently have COVID-19
  • five residents and 18 team members have recovered, are off isolation and are back at Grand Manor. 

Community Services

  • Currently have six homes under outbreak status
  • Six clients and ten team members currently have COVID-19

 

January 17th, 2022

As of January 17th, here are our current active cases along with a few recent recoveries.

Balwin Villa

  • Twelve residents and seven team members have contracted COVID-19.
  • Five team members have recovered and returned to Balwin.

Grand Manor

  • Two clients and one team member currently have COVID-19.
  • One Client and five team members have recovered and returned to Grand Manor.

Community Services

  • Six clients currently have COVID-19 with an additional six awaiting their test results.
  • As for our team, eight-teen team members currently have COVID-19 with an additional four awaiting results.
    Residence 8, 12, 35, and 43 all continue to hold their outbreak status.

 

January 7th, 2022

In addition to Grand Manor, Balwin Villa is also confirmed as an outbreak site with three positive and five symptomatic team members. Thankfully, no residents are symptomatic or have tested positive for COVID-19 at this time. 

Community Services also has some updates with Residence 35 placed on outbreak status with three team members and one client all testing positive for COVID-19. Furthermore, we have had two team members test positive at Residence 21, and one team member and client from Residence 43 also test positive for COVID-19. We are currently waiting to hear if either of these residences will be placed on outbreak status as well.

 

January 6th, 2022

Grand Manor continues to be on outbreak status with two employees testing positive for COVID-19. 

 

December 22th, 2021

We have received word that one member of our team has tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, December 20th. As such, the new tentative life date to lift Grand Manor’s outbreak status will be January 9th, 2022.

 

December 20th, 2021

With the Omicron variant being identified in Alberta, we will be adjusting our visitation process to align with current AHS recommendations. visitors and volunteers will not be permitted to enter the site for 14 days following known close contact with any case of COVID-19.

In addition to this, Grand Manor does not have any cases on site, but is still on outbreak status due to symptomatic staff. 

 

November 30th, 2021

Our Grand Manor facility has not had any additional positive cases since November 11th. If this continues, Grand Manor’s outbreak status will be lifted on December 9th, 2021.

 

November 2nd, 2021

We have received confirmation that two clients and two additional team members at Grand Manor have tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases to 8.

 

October 29th, 2021

Our Grand Manor Facility in Edmonton has been placed on Outbreak status with four members of our team testing positive for COVID-19. These team members are currently recovering in isolation. 

We have begun to rapid test all residents and team members at Grand Manor. We also will be implementing all required protocols to keep everyone safe.

October 13th, 2021

Our Grand Manor Facility in Edmonton has been placed on Outbreak status with two members of our team testing positive for COVID-19. Both team members are recovering in isolation and we currently do not have any active cases on site.

We are in the process of rapid testing all residents and team members within Grand Manor and will be implementing all required protocols to keep everyone safe. 

 

September 24th, 2021

August 27th, 2021

We have learned that one additional individual has tested positive for COVID-19 at Balwin Villa. At this point there has been no internal transmission and all other tests have come back negative.

 

August 20, 2022

We have just learned that a 2nd individual that reports to work at Balwin Villa has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual has mild symptoms, and we are in the process of testing all members within Balwin Villa.

Due to the timing of this information, Balwin Villa is now considered an outbreak site. They were previously placed under watch status as an individual who regularly works at Balwin tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in August. This individual has fully recovered and has returned to work. As we received this information on the day the watch was to be lifted, AHS deems them concurrent and an outbreak status is placed on Balwin Villa.

We are very confident in our team at Balwin as they have the skill, expertise and experience necessary to address this Outbreak.

 

March 11, 2021

February 18, 2021

We are pleased to announce that there are no active cases at Grand Manor! Thank you to the entire team for their sustained dedication and commitment to providing our clients with nothing less than exceptional care.

Grand Manor is still considered to be on outbreak as we are required to have no cases for 28 days before an outbreak status can be lifted. Provided that we have no more cases, Grand Manor will have the outbreak status lifted on March 8th.

 

February 12, 2021

With another client making a full recovery we are now down to only four active cases remaining. Two clients and one team member from the PDD unit along with one more team member from Supportive Living.

 

February 10, 2021

The number of confirmed cases at Grand Manor continue to decrease as we are at just 5 active cases remaining: one member of our team and two clients from Community Services and one member of our team and one client from Supportive Living.

 

February 5th, 2021

We are pleased inform everyone that the clients at Grand Manor and Balwin Villa have received their second dose vaccinations. 

In addition to this, the number of active cases within Grand Manor continue to decrease as we are down to nine cases: three clients and six members of our team.

 

February 2nd, 2021 

Currently, Grand Manor is our only location that still holds an outbreak status. There are currently thirteen active cases and you will find the breakdown below.

Aside from a few clients with more pronounced symptoms, all individuals who have tested positive are recovering and doing well. We will continue to provide them with exceptional care while remaining hopeful that their health will improve quickly.

 

January 29th, 2021

We currently have twenty-four active cases of COVID-19 within our entire organization.

There are eight confirmed cases within Grand Manor and six cases among our Community Services clients. As for our team, we have three cases from Supportive Living and seven from Community Services.

Our team has done an exceptional job up to this point in limiting the spread of this virus and we would like to thank them for their commitment to everyday excellence. Your actions have helped to ensure everyone stays safe, healthy, and cared for during this unprecedented health emergency.

 

January 27th, 2021

We are saddened to learn that a client from Grand Manor has passed away from COVID-19. He had several underlying health conditions and was only hospitalized for a few days before his passing. 

This client was part of the Excel family since 2011 and loved talking about the Oilers, listening to country music, and connecting with other clients and team members on a daily basis. 

He was a very genuine soul and will be missed deeply by his family, friends and our entire Excel team.

 

January 20th, 2021

There are currently 17 active cases of COVID-19 within supportive Living at Grand Manor.  We also have five active cases in Community Services with four clients and one member of our team currently recovering. 

From our first round of vaccinations last week a total of 315 doses were provided to the team and clients at Grand Manor and Balwin Villa. No abnormal reactions have been reported and we are very thankful to take this step to further ensure the safety and well-being everyone within The Excel Society. 

 

January 15th, 2021

We have received confirmation that one additional client at Grand Manor has tested positive for COVID-19. Though to contrast, one member of our Grand Manor team has fully recovered, keeping the total active cases within Grand Manor at 17.

In addition to this, one of our Community Service residences has had their outbreak status lifted. With this change we now only have one residence that still holds the Outbreak status

Lastly, we are proud to announce that the first of our team has received the COVID-19 vaccine at Grand Manor. Our team has been working very hard up to this point, and we look forward to having both our clients and team members protected from this life-changing pandemic.

 

January 13rd, 2021

We are pleased to inform everyone that Balwin Villa has officially been taken off of Outbreak status and there are no longer any active cases among the team or the clients. In addition to this, the number of our residences holding Outbreak status has dropped down to two with a total of four active cases throughout Community Services. These active cases being three members of our team and one client.

At Grand Manor, we continue to have new cases emerging. Currently there are sixteen active cases (twelve clients and four members of our team) of COVID-19. All are doing well and we are hopeful they all will recover quickly.

We would like to thank all of our team members, especially our direct care team for their incredible work up to this point. Each of them have kept COVID-19 at bay by wearing proper PPE, following protocols and being responsible in the community when they are not working.

 

January 7th, 2021

Over the holiday season we have received confirmation of both team members and clients testing positive for COVID-19. Below you will find our most recent numbers for our residences and DAL sites.

Community Services

  • 3 homes on outbreak and 5 active cases including 4 members of our team and 1 client.

Designated Assisted Living Facilities

  • Grand Manor – The site continues to be on Outbreak Status and we currently have 10 active cases, 6 members of our team and 4 clients.
  • Balwin – is also considered in Outbreak and we have 4 active cases who are all members of our team.

We are hopeful everyone inflicted with this terrible virus will recover quickly.

We have also received news that our Designated Assisted Living Facilities will receive the COVID-19 vaccinations mid-January as per the Government’s commitment to prioritize long term care and supportive living facilities. While these vaccinations are only available for our clients and team members at Grand Manor and Balwin Villa at this point, we are very excited by this news and are hopeful to learn more in respect to the remainder of our team and clients.

Everyone has been working incredibly hard for months on end and we would like to thank you all for making the different to our clients, one another and the community as a whole. 2020 has been quite the year and we are optimistic that as the vaccination continues to roll out, we will be able to once again return to a new normal that we all may enjoy.

 

December 31st, 2020

We have received a few updates from both our residences and designated assisted living facilities that we would like to share with you all.

Firstly, we have received confirmation of two staff members in our residences that have tested positive for COVID-19; one located in Edmonton and the other in Calgary. Both individuals are currently off work and are recovering in isolation. We currently have four residences on outbreak and are pleased to announce that all residence staff and clients who previously tested positive have either fully recovered or are now asymptomatic. 

As for our designated assisted living facilities, three members of the Balwin Villa team and three members of the Grand Manor team have tested positive for COVID-19. These individuals have been off work since December 25th and are recovering in isolation. We also have received confirmation of one client testing positive at Grand Manor; this individual is doing well and is also recovering in isolation. 

Our team has been working very hard to limit the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season. By remaining diligent and participating in meaningful engagement, we have been able to keep our clients safe and healthy without sacrificing their joy and connection during this holiday season.

 

December 14th, 2020

We have been informed of one additional team member testing positive at Grand Manor. A new round of testing has begun today and all individuals with the virus are recovering.

We have also learned that one additional team member has tested positive at Balwin Villa, bringing the total to three. All three members of our team are either in the process of recovering or fully recovered.

As for our residences, we continue to have five homes on outbreak. This is consistent with the previous update, though two of the previous five have been cleared and two additional houses have been added as they have experienced recent positive cases. Four of these homes are located in the Edmonton area and one is in Calgary. All individuals who have tested positive for the virus are in the process of recovering.

Thank you to the multiple members of our team who have been working incredibly hard during this challenging time. By collaborating with one another and remaining diligent, our teams continue to operate in a safe environment where our clients may still receive exceptional care.

 

December 7th, 2020

We have received confirmation of a client testing positive for COVID-19 within Grand Manor. This brings the total to four with this individual and our previous three team members all recovering in isolation. The 3rd round of testing has begun at Grand Manor and we remain hopefully the virus has been effectively contained.

We have also received confirmation that 5 of our Edmonton Residences are now considered to have outbreaks with one additional team member testing positive for COVID-19. The outbreak status was determined by Public Health based on the circumstances of the situation and not through additional cases in each residence. To date we have one confirmed client in our group homes, but will be testing clients and staff in the coming days.

Thank you to our entire team for their hard work during this time. Each of them have made the difference by managing the virus, support each other and continuing to provide our clients with exceptional care.

 

November 30th, 2020

We are pleased to inform you that we have most of the initial test results back from Grand Manor and there are no additional positive cases. The 3 members of our team who tested positive for COVID-19 are recovering.

A second round of testing will begin later this week.

November 27th, 2020

We have began to receive the results of our first round of testing and have confirmed that one additional member of our team has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in Grand Manor to three. These three members of our team are doing well and recovering in isolation. We are pleased to report that all client results we have received have come back negative to this date. As such, we continue to believe there was no transmission inside of Grand Manor.

Another round of testing is scheduled for early next week and will continue each week until the Outbreak status is lifted.

November 25th, 2020

We have learned that two of our team members at Grand Manor have tested positive for COVID-19. Each team member reported their symptoms immediately and began to self-isolate, which greatly decreased the risk of transmission to everyone within Grand Manor.

The team at Grand Manor will be working with Alberta Health, Public Health, the Medical Officer of Health and Alberta Health Services to ensure the safety of all our clients and team members during this time. All client and staff will be tested this morning and should receive the results early next week. Given the swift actions made by our team members, we are hopeful that transmission did not occur within Grand Manor.

Thank you to the entire team at Grand Manor for their quick response to this situation and we are confident that they will do everything they can to keep everyone safe while stopping the spread of COVID-19.

We are pleased to report all clients and staff that previously tested positive recovered and as of November 9th there are no active cases in any of our Calgary clients or staff.

We are very pleased to announce that today Balwin Villa has been officially cleared and is off outbreak!

The past six weeks have been difficult for the team at Balwin Villa, but they were able to overcome every challenge they faced because of their teamwork, dedication and resiliency. They were committed to everyday excellence from the moment the outbreak started and they each made the difference in this battle against COVID-19.

We would like to show our deepest appreciation to all of our team members at Balwin Villa, as each of them perfectly embodied the Excel Advantage every day for the past 6 weeks.

 

October 23rd, 2020

We now have all our preliminary test results back from Calgary.  3 of our clients and 5 members of our team have tested positive for COVID-19.  We continue to follow all safety protocols and we are hopeful for a speedy recovery for everyone. Thank you to the Calgary team for there incredible resiliency and diligence during this time. Each of you are making the difference by supporting one another, and ensuring our clients continue to receive exceptional care.

At Balwin Villa in Edmonton there are no additional cases to report.  All staff and clients are recovering as we work toward the Outbreak status being lifted.  Thank you to the entire Balwin team.  Their efforts have been instrumental in getting us to this positive outlook.

 

October 20th, 2020

We are saddened to learn that there is a confirmed outbreak at residence 79 in Calgary. All three clients have tested positive for COVID-19; two of which have mild symptoms and the third is asymptomatic. Additionally, four members of our team that work in the residence also received positive results. These individuals are doing well and we are still waiting for a few additional test results from other colleagues in Calgary.

As for Balwin, the situation appears to be stabilizing. Clients and staff are on their way to recovery and we are just awaiting the results of the fourth round of testing.

The team in Calgary has done extraordinary work thus far to support each other and ensure that all the right safety measures are followed. With their perspective of “we will do whatever it takes,”  we are confident that together we can get through this together.

 

October 14th, 2020

We have received confirmation that one additional member of our team has tested positive. This individual is asymptomatic and we are grateful to learn this.

We have received all client test results from the third swab taken last week and we are very pleased to report no other clients have tested positive.

October 9th, 2020

We have received confirmation that one additional member of our team has tested positive for the virus bringing the total number of cases to sixteen. We continue to remain hopeful the virus has been contained to a single POD at Balwin.

October 7th, 2020

We are pleased to report that no additional clients contracted COVID-19 through this second round of testing. Similarly, no other members of our team have tested positive either, however, we are waiting for a few more  test results. Additionally, of the clients that have tested positive, all are currently asymptomatic. 

Thanks to the persistence and resiliency of the Balwin team, we are one step closer to overcoming this challenging time. The Excel Advantage lives within each of you and we are immensely grateful for your efforts.

 

October 5th, 2020

As we are starting to receive the results from the second round of testing, we have learned of two more positive cases; a client and a member of our team. Bringing the total to fifteen active cases, ten clients and five member of our team.

The majority of the cases at Balwin have been asymptomatic with a couple of exceptions. We are also pleased to report that as of last night, the symptoms do not appear to be progressing for those individuals still showing signs of the virus.

We would like to extend our appreciation once again to the Balwin team, for their dedication, competence, and commitment to everyday excellence ensures everyone stays safe, healthy, and cared for during this unprecedented health emergency.

 

October 3rd, 2020

We have been informed that two members of our team have tested positive for COVID-19 who were assigned to the unit with the outbreak. This brings the total of active cases to thirteen. We will be receiving more results early next week, and continue to believe the virus has been contained to this single unit as no other test results have come back positive.

October 2nd, 2020

We have been informed that another client and staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 at Balwin Villa. This brings the active total to eleven with nine clients and two members of our team.

We will begin another round of testing today and should receive the results early next week. We are hopeful the virus has been contained in one POD at Balwin.

September 30th, 2020

One additional client and a staff member at Balwin Villa have tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the total number of active cases to nine.

All other results we have received to date have been negative. All nine individuals are in isolation with what appears to be manageable symptoms and we are hopeful for a speedy return to full health.

 

September 28th, 2020

Following last week’s testing we were informed of six additional COVID-19 cases at Balwin Villa. Five of which are asymptomatic with the sixth having a cough present that will be monitored closely. Each of these clients reside in the same unit at Balwin Villa and we are hopeful that through the incredibly diligent and committed work of our team we can limit the spread.

We would like to thank the team at Balwin Villa for their commitment and dedication during this time by following all protocols including always wearing the proper PPE, which will make the difference in keeping ourselves and our clients safe.

We would also like to include that at this point, not all test results have been received but do expect them in the coming days. As we are committed to being fully transparent, we will be providing complete updates on the situation at Balwin Villa as we learn more.

 

September 25th, 2020

We have been informed that one client has tested positive at Balwin Villa.

Testing for both clients and staff has begun and we will provide updates as test results become available.

We are pleased to report that all client and staff COVID-19 test results, that came back this week, have been negative.

September 15th, 2020

We would like to inform everyone that we have one employee from Grand Manor in isolation due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Even though we believe it was community transmitted, we are completing asymptomatic swabbing for all clients and employees over the next few days to ensure the safety of everyone at Grand Manor. Although the risk is low, we are working closely with AHS and Public Health to investigate any potential outbreaks.

We will provide updates as test results become available.

 

August 17th, 2020

We are pleased to share that the positive COVID-19 outbreak status at Balwin Villa has been lifted. One of the staff that previously tested positive has recovered and the second staff member is on their way to recovery. We swabbed close to 200 clients and staff and all results have come back negative. We would like to show our appreciation to the Balwin Villa team for preventing the spread of transmission and ensuring the clients and their co-workers safety.

Thank you to each of you as you have all reached out and helped during this especially challenging week.

 

August 10th, 2020

The Excel Society has over 55 years of experience providing exceptional healthcare in the community to Albertans. We are saddened to learn that two of our staff members at Balwin Villa have been infected with COVID-19. Both individuals are doing well and are in isolation. We wish them both the very best as they work their way back to full health.

At this point, no additional staff or clients from Balwin Villa have tested positive for COVID. More than 176 swabs have been taken for clients and employees. More than 160 results have been returned and all are negative with the exception of the 2 individuals from our team. The remaining results are pending and we expect the results over the next number of days.
